A Switched PDU includes all the monitoring capabilities of a metered PDU but adds the ability to remotely turn individual outlets on or off. This allows administrators to reboot locked devices remotely and schedule outlet power-up sequences.

0U Vertical PDUs are designed to be mounted vertically on the back of a server rack, requiring zero standard rack unit space. This leaves more space available for active IT equipment (like servers and switches) while allowing for clean cable management and high-density outlet counts (often up to 42 outlets per PDU). 1U or 2U Horizontal PDUs are mounted within the rack space and are ideal for smaller wall-mount enclosures, shallow racks, or distributed environments with fewer active devices.

In high-density server racks, standard power cords can easily be bumped or pulled loose during routine hardware maintenance, leading to accidental server downtime. PDUs equipped with locking outlets (such as lockable IEC C13 or C19 sockets) mechanically secure the power cords in place. They can only be released by pressing a designated clip or button, ensuring consistent electrical connections even in high-vibration or tightly packed cabinet environments.
